Night Birding
Written By Karen Overn

Common Poorwill out hunting at dusk
Some of the most interesting species in our region sleep the day away so a nocturnal adventure provides the best chance to encounter them. Eight species of owls, two nightjars and two rails breed in San Miguel County and I have secret spots for them. Lots of mammals in the region are nocturnal or crepuscular as well, so you never know what we might discover after sunset.
